Pride Men Fall To Pfeiffer In Heartbreaking Fashion

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer Falcons hit a pair of free throws with one second remaining to top the Greensboro College men's basketball team Wednesday 114-113.

Pfeiffer raced out to an 8-3 lead over the first three minutes of action before Greensboro went on a 19-4 run to take their largest lead of the game a 22-12.

Keyford Langley, Greyson Collins, Carmoni Marks, and Eric Peaks Jr. hit from three-point range during the run, while Landon Murray and Marks each had a layup.

Following the Greensboro run, the Falcons were able to battle back to take a 25-24 lead with 9:52 showing on the first half clock.

As the clock began to tick down, Pfeiffer extended their lead out to as many as 14 before Greensboro battled back to within three at halftime after Kevon Meertins recorded a free throw.

The Falcons then maintained their narrow lead for the first four minutes of the second half before Michael Phifer recorded a layup to give Greensboro a 64-63 lead.

However, Greensboro was unable to hold the lead as Pfeiffer began to hit on all cylinders and raced out to a 100-87 lead with 7:03 to play.

Greensboro then used a 16-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 103-102 lead. Once again, the three-point ball fueled the spurt as Phifer, Langley, and Collins each hit from long range.

Down the stretch, Pfeiffer held a 112-110 lead with 13 seconds remaining before Peaks Jr. hit from the left wing to give Greensboro a one-point lead once again.

However, Greensboro caught a bad break as Kyle Riddley was fouled with one second remaining and hit both free throws to secure the one-point win for Pfeiffer.

"This was a tough outcome for our kids and our staff," Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. "We deserved to win the game."

Greensboro shot 57-percent from the field on the day as Phifer finished with a team-high 26 points to go along with seven rebounds. Marks (24), Collins (18), Langley (17), and Peaks Jr. (14) also finished in double figures.

The Pride men will return to action Friday when they host Covenant College at 7:30 p.m.
