Baseball Tops Falcons In Series Finale

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Scotty McGuire went 4-for-5 at the plate, including a two-run homerun, as the Greensboro College baseball team topped the Falcons of Pfeiffer University Sunday, 8-7.

Greensboro quickly took a three-run lead in the top half of the opening inning after Hunter Curtis plated Blake Carroll with a sacrifice fly before Greensboro scored two runs on a Falcons error.

Despite opening the game strong, the Pride gave up two runs in the bottom half but was able to extend their lead out to 4-2 on a Carroll double to left-center field.

Greensboro was able to maintain their two-run advantage into the third inning where McGuire blasted his two-run homerun over the left-center field wall before Dalton Tassinari came in to score on a Tim Osborne single to extend the lead to 7-2.

However, Pfeiffer was able to score two more runs in the bottom half of the third inning before McGuire would recorded the decisive RBI hit to secure the win in the fourth inning, despite giving up three runs in the fourth.

The Pride finished the day with 11 hits, while the Falcons had eight. Brady Dignan tallied two hits for Greensboro, while Carroll, Derek Jaar, Tassinari, Blake Bond and Osborne had one hit each. Tyler Garam pitched the first four innings but did not factor into the decision. Joseph Hoelle was credited the win after pitching five innings of scoreless baseball.

"I am very proud of the way our guys responded today," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "Our bats were much improved today and we played with a lot more energy.

"Scotty (McGuire) is continuing to swing a hot bat and is also doing a great job behind the plate. Joseph (Hoelle) did an outstanding job for us out of the bullpen by locating the ball well and keeping their hitters off balance for the rest of the game."

The Greensboro College baseball team will return to action Monday when they take on the University of Tampa JV team in a doubleheader. For more information on Pride baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
