GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Quakers of Guilford College to open the Guilford College Classic Saturday 82-58.
Guilford jumped out to a 4-3 lead just three minutes into the contest before Greensboro went on a 5-0 run to take a 8-4 lead.
Justin Minnis accounted for all five of the points as he connected from three-point range one time and added a pair of free throws.
The two teams then began to trade the lead back and forth before Guilford took a 15-12 lead with 10:28 showing on the clock.
However, Greensboro's
Eric Peaks Jr. hit his second three-pointer of the afternoon just seconds later to tie the game.
Over the final 9:28, the Quakers were able to regain the lead once again before going in the lead with a 38-26 advantage.
In the second half, the Pride struggled to get their offense going which allowed the Quakers to pull away for the victory.
"There is not a kid in our locker room that does not want to win but tonight we were soft and outplayed," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "We did not come ready to play college basketball today and it was a real disappointment."
Peaks finished with a game-high 18 points, while
Kevon Meertins (11) and
Carmoni Marks (10) also finished with double figures scoring.
The Pride men will return to action at 2 p.m. Sunday when they close out the classic against the University of Lynchburg. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
