Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Surge Comes Up Short In Loss To Hornets

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the University of Lynchburg Sunday to close the Guilford College Classic 82-74.

Greensboro quickly scored the game's first basket as Keyford Langley connected for three-point range.

However, the Hornets went on an 8-0 run to establish a five-point edge with 18:23 showing on the clock.

After Keyshawn Dorsey recorded a layup to pull the Pride back to within three, Lynchburg extended their lead back out to seven with 15:13 to play in the half.

Over the next 1:16, Greensboro was a to scratch their way back to within one as Carmoni Marks fueled a 7-1 run to make the score 13-12.

The Pride then kept the game close for the next eight minutes of action before the Hornets caught fire from the field and took a 57-34 lead into halftime.

Despite facing the large deficit, Greensboro did not go away easily as they outscored the Hornets 25-12 over the first 12 minutes of the second half to pull within 10 before Jordan McCray hit one free throw to cut the deficit to 69-60 with 7:12 on the clock.

During the opening run, Greensboro had five different players score with Michael Phifer tallying eight of the points while Marks chipped in seven.

As the time began with run down, Keyshawn Dorsey was able to get Greensboro to within five points with an old-fashion three-point play but the Pride would not be able to get any closer, falling by the eight-point margin.

"I am really proud and happy with the way we came out on competed in the second half," Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. "To be down 23 points and still compete and fight like we did is a true testament to the kids that we have in the locker room. As I said yesterday, there is not a kid in that locker room that does not want to win. I am hoping that today's experience helps us and propels us into the start of league play Saturday.

"We have to find a way to put two halves together as we can't play just one half of basketball and think it is good enough. We cannot play with our backs against the wall has we have to play for a full 40 minutes. The year of 2018 has been a significant learning experience for Greensboro College men's basketball and I hope that we can take those experiences and learn from those in 2019."

Marks finished with a team-leading 19 points, while Dorsey finished just one rebound shy of a double double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Langley also finished with 10 points going along with seven assists.

The Pride men will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when they travel to the Cougars of Averett University.
