FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College football team fell to the Monarchs of Methodist University Saturday, 42-6.
After Methodist took a 21-0 lead into halftime before Greensboro got on the board late in the third quarter.
Following a Monarchs punt, Greensboro got the ball on their own 34-yardline and traveled 66 yards on seven plays before
Louis Briggs III rushed five yards into the end zone to make the score 21-6, following a failed two-point conversion attempt.
During that drive, Greensboro got a big 32-yard gain on a
David Loughry II completion to
Mike Jones.
Despite riding the momentum of the touchdown drive, the Pride was not able to find the end zone for a second time as the Monarchs went on to secure the victory.
"We started out the game with a three-and-out on defense that allowed our offense to move the ball well, but we were not able to convert on a field goal opportunity," Head Coach
Greg Crum said. "We ended the day 1-for6 in the red zone on the day and we just are not going to improve if we cannot stop making little mistakes.
"However, I saw progress but we have to complete a full game in order to win. Methodist played better today and deserved to win. Nonetheless, I am still very proud of what we are doing and the progress is there and we need to keep improving each week."
Cory Vaughan turned in his second consecutive 100-yard rushing performance as he tallied 129 yards on 24 carries.
Defensively,
Kasseem Bagley led the way with eight tackles, including one for loss, while
Cornelius Bailey and Ju'Warren Byrd combined for nine tackles.
The Pride will return to action Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon College. For more information on Greensboro College football, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
