Volleyball Splits Matches At USA South Quad Match

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at Meredith College.
 
The Pride defeated the Falcons of Pfeiffer University to start the day, 3-0, before suffering a 3-2 setback against to the host Angels.
 
With the scored tied at 11 in Set 1 against Pfeiffer, Greensboro used a 14-0 run to win the set 25-11. During the run, Emily Horn had five service aces, while Evan Sherer had two kills.
 
Following the impressive run to close out Set 1, Greensboro went on the record a 25-12 win in Set 2 before closing out the match with a 25-21 victory in Set 3.
 
Horn finished with a match-high eight service aces, while Shayla Moss, Danyale Berry and Sherer combined for 22 kills.
 
Greensboro then returned to action against the host Angels later in the day.
 
Meredith took the opening two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead before Greensboro was able to force the match into a fourth set with a 25-23 win in Set 3.
 
The two teams were tied at 18 midway through Set 3 before Greensboro was able to close out the set with a 7-4 run to win.
 
Following the Set 3 victory, Greensboro rode their momentum into Set 4 where they won by a 25-16 score to send the match into a decisive fifth set.
 
In the fifth set, Meredith jumped out a two-point lead midway through the set before Greensboro rebounded to tie the set at 10.
 
Despite the rally to even score, Greensboro came up just short falling 15-11 to drop the match by a 3-2 mark.
 
Berry had a team-high 13 kills in the loss, while Moss and Horn had 12 kills each. Katie Clark recorded a match-high 34 assists.

"We grew a lot as a team today," Head Coach Kathy Bullock said. "After winning our first match of the day we found ourselves down 2-0 to the defending conference champions but the girls did not back down and stepped up big.

"I am proud of the fight they displayed during the match as we could see the things we have been working on in practice coming together."
