CARY, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team clinched a spot in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday with a 4-2 victory over the Pacers of William Peace University.
Neither team was able to push a run across the plate over the first two innings before
Brady Dignan gave Greensboro a one-run lead with a single in the third inning.
Greensboro then extended their lead to 3-0 when
Hunter Curtis and
Adam Murray came in to score in the fifth inning on a William Peace error.
After the two-run fifth inning, Greensboro was able to extend their lead to 4-0 in the top half of the eighth inning on a
Andrew Ray single before the Pacers scored the game's final two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Ray finished with a team-high three hits, while Dignan had two hits.
Piero Amador recorded his fifth win of the season after pitching the first 7 1/3 innings before giving way to
Willis Booth, who recorded his second save of the season.
"Piero did what he has done all season by pounding the zone and giving us a chance to win," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado said. "Brady and Andrew had some big RBIs in the middle of the game that made the difference offensively before Willis came in and got the job done in relief.
"I am very proud of how this group has played but there is more work to be done."
The Pride baseball team will take on the Pacers in Game 2 of the three-game set at 1 p.m. Saturday. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow
