HAMPTON, Va. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to Hampton University Saturday, 7-5.
Daniel Wolf gave Greensboro a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the first period.
Following the Wolf goal, neither team was able to find the back of the net again until
Davis Miller scored off an assist from
Victor Mehrtens to give Greensboro a two-goal lead with two minutes remaining until halftime.
The Pride then extended their lead to 3-0 one minute later when Miller found the back of the net once again for a man-up goal.
However, Hampton was able to score with eight seconds showing on the second period clock to send the game into halftime with the Pride holding on to a two-goal.
Hampton then scored the game's next two goals to tie the game before Wolf scored off a Miller assist to give the Pride a 4-3 edge.
The Pirates then scored three unanswered goals before Johnathan Avedesian found the back of the net with eight minutes remaining in the contest to make the score 6-5 but Hampton tallied another goal to secure the two-goal victory.
"The game did not go our way in the end," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "Hampton's goalie made some fantastic saves on us which really ended up being the difference maker."
Miller finished with two goals and one assist, while Wolf also tallied two goals.
Phillip Gerber won 7-of-15 face-offs and picked up two groundballs.
Chris DiBlasi took the loss in goal despite making seven saves.
