Late Rally Falls Short As Pride Men Fall To Falcons

Pride Drop Contest to Pfeiffer

GREENSBORO, NC – Davis Miller was able to score a hat trick for Greensboro College Saturday but it wasn't quite enough as Pfeiffer University recorded the win, 8-6.

The Falcons scored the first goal of the game with 8:17 remaining in the first quarter, taking the 1-0 lead.

The Pride responded just a few minutes later when Austin Bane scored to tie the game up at one at the end of the first quarter.

Davis Miller would then score his first goal in the second quarter to give the Pride the 2-1 lead with 10:18 remaining in the half.

Pfeiffer responded with a goal to tie the game at 2-2 with 6:47 remaining before Daniel Wolf would get the lead back for Greensboro when he scored off a feed from Miller with 3:04 left in the 2nd.

The Falcons fought back and scored two quick goals, with under twenty seconds to play, to give themselves the 4-3 lead going into halftime.

Coming out from the break, the lead by the Falcons was extended to 5-3 with a goal at the 13:15 mark of the third quarter.

The Pride would battle back again as Miller would score two unassisted goals at the 6:47 and 4:12 marks and tie the game up at five going in to the final quarter of play.

The Falcons would score twice to take the 7-6 lead early in the 4th quarter.  The Pride would continue to fight and get within a goal, when Wolf scored off a Tamarie Sterling assist with 4:56 remaining.

However, the Falcons would score with 2:51 remaining and did not relinquish the lead from there.

Miller led the Pride in shots with ten, while Justin Mathews led all field players with four ground balls.  Chris DiBlasi finished the game with nine big saves in the cage for the Pride, but was credited with the loss.

"I thought the defense did a good job today and we cleared the ball much better than we have in the last couple games," Head Coach Mike Foderaro said. "Offensively, we valued the ball today but we need to do a better job beating our short stick match ups and drawing slides."

The Pride are back in action Wednesday, March 29 when they will host Ferrum College on Pride Field at 4 p.m.  For more information on Greensboro College men's lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
