Baseball Splits With Averett On Senior Day

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team picked up their third straight USA South Athletic Conference series victory with a doubleheader split with Averett University on Senior Day Saturday.
 
Greensboro fell in the first game, 5-3, before winning the nightcap, 5-4.
 
In the first game, Greensboro scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
 
Zach Neumeister and Brandon Soden scored on two Averett errors before Hunter Curtis hit a single to right field to score Scotty McGuire.
 
Averett then scored the game's final five runs to secure the two-run victory despite Greensboro having runners on the bases in the seventh and eighth innings.
 
Tim Osborne, Kristopher Taveras, Neumeister, Brandon Soden, Curtis, Jacob Rodriguez, and Daniel Efrid each had one hit. Adam Murray got a no decision on the mound despite striking out four batters of six innings, while Tyler Garam was credited with the loss after pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief.
 
The Cougars then rode the momentum in to the second game as they took a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning before Greensboro cut the deficit in half with one run on a Mac Graham double into left-center field.
 
Greensboro then got RBIs from Soden and Jaar in the sixth inning to go on top 3-2 before adding one run in the seventh and eighth innings.
 
Efrid had a RBI single in the seventh inning before Jewett plated the eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning with a single down the right field line.
 
Averett was able to cut the Greensboro advantage down to one run in the top half of ninth inning before Christian Kercado was able to shut the door for his first save of the season.
 
Soden finished with a team-high three hits in the game, while Graham, Efird, Jimmy Short, and Rodriguez had two hits each. Josh Evans picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching seven strong innings and recorded two strikeouts.
