ROCKY MOUNT, N.C – The Greensboro College baseball team picked up another USA South Athletic Conference series win Sunday with a doubleheader split with the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan.
Wesleyan won Game 1, 5-0, before Greensboro rebounded for an 11-1 victory in Game 2.
Greensboro had several opportunities to score in Game 1 but could not push anything across the plate.
Hunter Curtis had a team-high two hits, while
Michael Faul had one hit.
Adam Murray recorded seven strikeouts for the Pride over 7 2/3 innings but was credited with the loss.
After dropping the first game, Greensboro struck for two runs in the third inning of Game 2 to take a two-run lead.
Tim Osborne got Greensboro on the board with a RBI double to left-center field before coming in to score on a Faul groundout.
Greensboro then extended their lead to 8-0 with a six-run seventh inning before adding another run in the seventh inning.
Daniel Efrid scored the first run of the sixth on a Curtis fielder's choice before Osborne hit another RBI double.
Brandon Soden and
Zach Neumeister then capped off the sixth inning scoring with consecutive RBI doubles before Curtis recorded his second RBI of the day in the seventh.
With the Pride leading 9-0 heading into the eighth, the Bishops were able to score their lone run before
Derek Jaar blasted a 2 RBI homerun in the ninth inning to secure the 10-run victory.
Greensboro pounded out 16 hits in the game, while
Braedon Jewett led the way with a 4-for-4 performance. Osborne, Soden, and
Brady Dignan had two hits each, while Jaar finished with three hits and two RBIs.
Josh Evans pitched seven strong innings to earn the win, while
Christian Kercado pitched the final two innings.
