VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday, 10-3
Greensboro (17-9) took a two-run lead in the first inning before the Marlins (8-9) scored two runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-2 lead.
Jacob Rodriguez walked to lead off the game before advancing to second base on a
Derek Jaar single down the left field line. Rodriguez then came in to score on a
Jimmy Short double to left-center field.
Following the Short double, Jaar came in to score on a wild pitch.
The Marlins then scored the game's next six runs to take a 10-2 lead before Greensboro was able to their final run in the ninth inning.
Braedon Jewett walked with one out before advancing into scoring position on a Virginia Wesleyan balk. Jewett then came in to score on a Rodriguez single.
"We got outplayed in all three phases of the game," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado said. "Hopefully we will learn and grow for this.
"We will get back to work Thursday as we prepare for a tough Averett team."
Rodriguez finished with a team-high two hits, while
Zach Neumeister,
Brayden King, Jaar,
Jimmy Short, and
Michael Faul had one hit each.
Tyler Garam was credited with the loss after pitching four innings, while
Kyle Zicafoose,
Hunter Curtis, and
Andrew Ray combined for four innings.
