ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated Mid-Atlantic Christian University Tuesday, 65-53.
Greensboro opened the game on a 9-0 run over the first two minutes of the contest.
Monica Smalls recorded an old-fashion three-point play to fuel the run, while
Kamerin Williams,
Shamara Richardson, and
Rasheika Gregory chipped in two points each.
The two teams then traded baskets for the remainder of the period before the Pride took a 19-8 lead into the second period.
Greensboro struggled offensively second period but was able to take a 31-20 lead into half time.
The Mustangs then cut the Pride advantage down to two points with just under five minutes to play in the third period before Greensboro used a 12-4 run to pull ahead 48-38 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Greensboro was then able to establish its largest lead of the game at 54-42 before going on to win 65-53.
"We started out the game with a lot of turnovers but we did rebound the ball well after a late start to the game," Assistant Coach
Reggie Hines said. "We are just fortunate to come away with the win for our 9
th consecutive victory.
"Our pressure defense worked well down the stretch of the game, and that will a big focus to the next two games as we close out the regular season."
Williams recorded a double double with a team-high 13 points and 15 rebounds, while
Courtney Pearsall finished with 12 points. Smalls finished the contest with 4 points and 10 rebounds.
