VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan Saturday, 14-7.
Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead six minutes into the first period before
Ryan Cole and Johnathan Avedesian scored to tie the game, while
Davis Miller and
Tamarie Sterling were credited with an assist each.
The Marlins then regained a one-goal lead before Miller tallied a goal of his own with 16-seconds remaining in the period to tie the score at three.
After the two teams traded goals in the first three minutes of the second period, Virginia Wesleyan scored six unanswered goals to take a 10-4 lead with eight minutes on the third period clock.
Following a Marlins penalty, Avedesian took a feed from
Victor Mehrtens and found the back of the net for a second time in the game to pull Greensboro to within five goals.
However, Virginia Wesleyan outscored Greensboro 4-2 over the final 19-minutes to secure the seven-goal victory.
"Today wasn't the result we were hoping for but the guys played hard for a full 60 minutes," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "The score does not reflect the effort that was given today."
Miller and Avedesian both finished with two goals, while Mehrtens had a team-high two assists.
Chris DiBlasi took the loss in goal despite recording 20 saves.
The Pride men will return to action at 4 p.m. Saturday when they travel to Hampton University. For more information on Greensboro College men's lacrosse, continue to follow
