GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell to Guilford College in game two of a three-game set Saturday, 8-5.
Guilford took a one-run lead into the third inning before
Tim Osborne hit a fly by to center field to score
Scotty McGuire from third base to tie the game at one.
Later in the inning,
Jimmy Short gave Greensboro a one-run lead as he placed a single through the middle infield.
Then the rain came and halted play for 40 minutes.
Following the rain delay, Guilford scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead before the Pride responded with one run in the fifth inning.
Short reached on an error with two outs in the inning before stealing second base to get into scoring position before coming in to score on a
Zach Neumeister single to right field.
However, Guilford plated two more runs in the sixth inning to push their advantage to 8-4 before Greensboro plated the game's final run in the ninth inning.
After
Braedon Jewett walked with two outs in the inning,
Hunter Curtis laced a double to right field to record his eighth RBI of the season.
"Today was a tough day as we beat ourselves in certain aspects of the game," Assistant Coach
Matt Reed said. "We had one big inning that set us back and we just could not recover.
"The good thing is we have an opportunity to win another series tomorrow and I really like our chances."
Short, Neumeister, and Curtis finished with a team-high two hits each, while
Jacob Rodriguez recorded a base hit of his own.
Adam Murray, who started on the mound for the Pride, was credited with the loss after pitching 3 2/3 innings.
