GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to crosstown rival Guilford College Wednesday, 15-8.
The Quakers held a 7-0 lead through the first 15-minutes of play before Greensboro cut the deficit to two goals after scoring five unanswered goals to open the second period.
Davis Miller scored two straight goals within 13-seconds of each other before Johnathan Avedesian struck the back of the net off an assist by
Daniel Wolf.
Wolf then scored a goal of his own 20-seconds later before Miller recorded his third goal of the contest.
After Guilford pushed their lead to 10-5 four minutes into the third period, Miller tallied his fourth goal of the game to pull Greensboro within four goals.
However, the Quakers outscored the Pride 5-2 over the final 19-minutes of play to secure the victory. Wolf and Avedesian tallied Greensboro's two goals, while
Tamarie Sterling and Miller had one assist each.
"Unfortunately tonight did not go the way we wanted it to but I give Guilford credit for executing their game plan," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "It was 7-0 before we knew it but the guys didn't quit and battled back to make it a more competitive game.
"We will learn from this game and go forward from here."
Miller finished with a team-high four goals and one assist, while Wolf and Avedesian had two goals each.
Phillip Gerber went 11-of-25 in the faceoff circle and picked up eight groundballs.
Chris DiBlasi took the loss in goal despite making 15 saves.
The Pride men's lacrosse team will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan College. For more information on Greensboro College men's lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
