GREENSBORO, N.C. – Randy Tuggle became the winningest coach in Greensboro College women's basketball history Wednesday as the Pride women's basketball team topped the Pacers of William Peace University, 68-58.
The win was the 139
th of Coach Tuggle's tenure, passing his cousin and former head coach Jason Tuggle.
The Pacers jumped out to an early four-point lead before
Katie Lewis and
Rasheika Gregory tied the game with back-to-back jumpers in the lane.
Greensboro then took its second lead of the day at 10-9 following a
Marla Crawford three-pointer before WPU used a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead with 9:20 showing on the second period clock.
Gregory and Crawford then pulled Greensboro to within 18-16 with six straight points before the Pacers pulled away in the final two minutes of the half to take a 32-26 halftime lead.

However, Gregory struck again with two challenged jumpers as Greensboro opened the third period on a 7-2 run to pull within one at 34-33.
After William Peace extended their margin back to seven points late in the period, Gregory connected on four consecutive free throw attempts to start a 10-0 run to give the Pride a 46-43 lead with 7:29 to play in the contest.
Clinging to a two-point advantage with five minutes to play, Lewis started a 14-6 run with an old-fashion three-point play to give the Pride a 64-54 lead.
The Pride defense came up big for the remainder of the game and did not let the Pacers get any closer than seven points to secure the record-breaking victory.
"Our girls played really hard tonight and was able to come away with a big win," Tuggle said. "I know that we may have started out slow but we were able to rebound late in the game.
"Now we have two tough road games to get ready for this weekend. "
Gregory finished with a game-high 22 points, while Lewis (15) and Crawford (12) also recorded double digit scoring.
Courtney Pearsall had a team-high nine rebounds.
