FERRUM, Va. – The Greensboro College football team fell to the Panthers of Ferrum College in their final road contest for the 2017 season Saturday, 52-13.
Ferrum established a 35-0 lead with nine minutes left to go in the second quarter before the Pride was able to get on the board.
Three plays after Jonanthon Pfeiffer punted the ball back to Ferrum, Kasseem Bagley intercepted a Zack Clifford pass and scampered 28-yards into end zone to pull the Pride to within 35-6 before Pfeiffer converted on the point-after attempt.
However, the Panthers were able to score the game's next 14 point to push their advantage to 49-7 just four minutes into the second half.
Greensboro then got on the board once again with 3:12 remaining in the third after capping off a 10-play 63-yard drive with a Derrin Little touchdown pass to Samuel Lykes to make the score 49-13.
Following the Pride touchdown, Ferrum went on to score the game's final seven points to secure the 52-13 victory.
"I am extremely excited about the future of our program as we showed some outstanding play in spurts today," Head Coach
Greg Crum said. "Unfortunately, we have to play at that tempo for a full 60 minutes and we just did not do that today."
Tolan Jones tallied 56 yards rushing on 13 carries, while Nicholas Coleman and Lykes combined for 67 receiving yards. James Pegues had a game-high nine tackles, including three tackles for loss.
The Pride will return to action a 1 p.m. Saturday when they host the Cougars of Averett University for senior day. For more information on Greensboro College football, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
