RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College volleyball team split their final USA South Athletic Conference quad-match of the regular season Saturday.
The Pride fell in five sets to Salem College before topping the Squirrels of Mary Baldwin, 3-0.
Salem won Set 1 25-15 before the Pride raced out to an 8-4 lead in Set 2 following a kill by
Emily Horn.
After the Spirts pulled within two point, Greensboro went on a 7-1 spurt to pull out to a 18-10 lead before winning 25-20 to even the match at one set a piece.
Following the Set 2 win by the Pride, Greensboro rode the momentum to win Set 3 by a 25-21 score before dropping Set 4 25-22 to send the match into a decisive fifth set.
Greensboro then opened the decisive set with three straight points before falling 15-11.
Evan Sherer and
Shayla Moss combined for 27 kills, while
Katie Clark had 22 assists.
Tori Belcher paced the Greensboro defense with 20 digs.
Following the defeat against Salem, Greensboro breezed by Mary Baldwin.
The Pride won the opening set by a 25-9 score before winning the next two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-16.
Moss had a match-high 17 kills and Clark had 25 assists.
"I felt like today was very progressive for our girls," Head Coach
Kathy Bullock said. "We could have done a better of finishing but the girls showed a lot of character following a tough five-set loss to open the day.
"It was really good for us to finish our regular season on a good note heading into the conference tournament."
