RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 6 East-seeded Pride of Greensboro College fell to the No.3 East-seeded Angels of Meredith College in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Tuesday, 3-1.
The Pride dropped Set 1 25-13 before rallying back to tie the match at one with a Set 2 win.
With the Angels leading 8-5, Greensboro ran off four straight points to take a one-point lead. Shayla Moss had two kills during the run, while Breanna Wilton recorded one service ace.
Following the Greensboro run, Meredith battled back to even that set at 11 but the Pride was able to use a 5-1 run later in the set to establish a 22-19 lead before winning, 25-23.
After Greensboro tied the match, Meredith was able to close out the match by winning the next two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-11.
"Tonight was very inspiring for our team as we came out with a lot of emotion," Head Coach
Kathy Bullock said. "We did not perform at our best but we had some players really step up for us.
"I was really impressed with the play of our freshman as this was their first time playing in the conference tournament. We had a great season and I cannot thank the entire team enough for all of their hard work, especially the seniors as they have put a lot into the program over the past four years. We are already looking forward to next season."
Emily Horn led Greensboro with 10 kills and Danyale Berry had nine kills. Briley Hale-Jarrell and Katie Clark combined for 32 assists, while Tori Belcher had 28 digs.
