Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pride Men Fall In Overtime To Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Donavan Griffith scored a game-high 25 points but the Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan in overtime Wednesday, 102-96.

Greensboro (9-5, 3-1 USA South) score the first six points of the game before establishing its first double digit lead of game at 26-15 following a Griffith layup.

The Pride was then able to use a 10-3 run later in the half to establish a 38-21 lead. Darus Maddox led the run with four points, while Lorenzo Marry, Demetrius Tilley, and Christopher Corbin combined for six points.

Greensboro was then able to establish their largest lead of the half at 51-33 before Wesleyan used a 5-0 to pull with 51-38 at the half.

After Wesleyan used a 6-0 run midway through the second half to take its first lead of the game at 69-66, Greensboro exploded with a 17-0 run of their own to establish a 83-69 lead with five minutes to play. Maddox had six of the 17 points, while Gatling and Matteo Baggio combined for seven points. Cornelius Johnson and Griffith added two points each.

However, the Bishops were able to come back and tie the game at 88 following an old-fashion three-point play by Adrian Moore with 53-seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Gatling then gave Greensboro an early lead in the extra frame Bishops were able to pull away for the six-point victory.

"Tonight was an exciting game to be a part of," Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. "Collectively we did not make the correct decisions down the stretch. We have to learn how to close teams out when we have leads, especially on the road.

"Our players show a lot of effort, but in the end we simply didn't finish. Tonight's outcome is one we have to learn from if we want to contend for a league championship."

Gatling finished with 24 points, while Maddox (14) and Marry (10) also recorded double figures scoring. Griffith also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Corbin and Gatling each passed for a team-high five assists.

The Pride men will continue their USA South Athletic Conference road trip at 2 p.m. Saturday when they take on the Monarchs of Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
