MARYVILLE, Tn. –The Greensboro College men's soccer team opened up USA South Athletic Conference play with an overtime victory Sunday at Maryville College, 2-1.
The Pride (2-3, 1-0 USA South) got on the board first from an unassisted goal by
Scott Fatyol in the 17
th minute.
The Scots (4-2, 1-1 USA South) then tied the game in the 70
th minute of the game, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra period,
Cole Watkins was able to head-home a corner kick from
Carlos Barragan to give the Pride their first USA South win of the season.
Jaimie Payamps earned the win in goal for the Pride, while making 8 saves.
"I am very proud of the fight the boys showed today," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. "They played well in the first half, came out and moved the ball well.
"Maryville showed the type of team they are, and played very well in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure. It was a tough fought match with two teams that wanted to play."
