ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split a pair of games Friday in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Pride suffered a 21-4 defeat in Game 1 against No.2-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan before topping No. 7-seeded Huntingdon College, 5-3.
Allyson Yeager, who hit a home run to left-center field, recorded all four RBIs for Greensboro in Game 1, while
Dawn Harris took the loss in the pitching circle.
Greensboro used a two-run fourth inning to open a narrow lead in Game 2.
Sarah Connolly plated Yeager from third-base, before
Mandi Ballard recorded one RBI following a Hawks error.
Huntingdon got one run back in the fifth-inning, but the Pride added three insurance runs in the six-inning.
Alexis Hall,
Madison Crisco, and
Kali Puckett accounted for the three RBIs.
The Hawks threatened in the seventh inning, but Greensboro held on for the three-run victory.
Nicole Wallace and Puckett each had a team-high two hits, while
Madison Crisco,
Sarah Tompkins, Connolly, and Yeager combined for four hits.
Dawn Harris pitched 7-innings to pick up the win.
"We struggled defensively in Game 1 and it hurt us," Interim Head Coach
Denzel Wallace said. "I was happy with the way the girls battled back in Game 2, but we have to play sound defense tomorrow to advance."
The Pride will square off against No. 1-seeded Piedmont College at 10 a.m. Saturday. If Greensboro wins, the Pride will play again at 2 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow
