Pride Baseball Splits Non-Conference Set With Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – The Greensboro College baseball team split a non-conference double-header Wednesday with the Wasps of Emory & Henry.

The Pride (10-28) suffered a 4-3 defeat in Game 1 before topping the Wasps (9-25), 7-5, in Game 2.

E&H used a three-run third inning to take an early lead in Game 1, but the Pride struck for three runs of their own to even the score. After Andrew Ray walked to load the bases, Adam Murry plated Brian Robbett, Zach Neumeister, and Ray with a double to right field.

However, the Wasps scored the game's final run in the bottom half of the inning to secure the one-run victory.

Neumesiter, Robbett, and Ray each had one hit. Zach Branon took the loss after pitching 4 2/3 innings. Hunter Wolfington tossed one inning in relief, while Edward Dorunda pitched 1/3 inning.

Greensboro scored the first four runs of Game 2. Edward Mililan scored Braedon Jewett and Murray with a double to left center, while Kerry Rice recorded his first collegiate RBI hit to put the Pride on top 3-0. Murray then plated Greensboro's fourth run in the third inning with his second double of the afternoon.

E&H drew even with four runs in the third inning before Neumeister scored Mac Graham with a single through the right side to regain the lead.

Rice then gave Greensboro all the help it would need in the sixth inning as he homered to left field to score Mililian and push the advantage to 7-4.

The Wasps got one run back in the bottom of the inning but would not get any closer.

Graham, Mililan, and Rice each had a team-high two hits, while Neumeister, Daniel Efrid, Kristopher Taveras, Murray, and Bram Johnson recorded one hit each. Jeff Waring picked up his first win of the season, pitching 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Robbett, who picked up his third save of the season.

"I didn't feel like our focus level was where it needed to be in Game 1, and we lost a tough game," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "After losing the first game, I was very happy with the way the team bounced back. This group continues to compete for a full nine innings, and that is all that I can ask of them."

The Pride will close out their 2016 season at 6 p.m. Wednesday when they travel to Roanoke College. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
