Baseball Completes Three Game Sweep of William Peace

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team completed a three-game sweep of William Peace University with a pair of victories Sunday.

The Pride (9-27, 5-13 USA South) took Game 1, 7-6, before winning Game 2, 4-3.

In the first game, Greensboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Pacers (10-25, 2-16 USA South) jumped in front following a one-run second inning and a two-run fourth inning. Zach Neumeister plated J.P. Lisk with a triple before coming in to score on a Kristopher Taveras groundout.

The Pride then retook the lead with a three-run sixth inning, but WPU responded with three runs in the seventh inning. James Wilkins scored the first run of the sixth inning, following a Pacers wild pitch, before Adam Murray and Braedon Jewett recorded one RBI each.

After falling behind for a second time, Greensboro scored the game's final two runs to secure the one-run victory.

Wilkins finished with a team-high three hits, while Neumeister and Jewett recorded two hits each. Josh Evans pitched the first six innings, while Mitch Choros recorded the win after pitching the final two innings in relief.

The Pacers struck for the first run in Game 2, but Neumeister blasted a three-run home run to give Greensboro a 3-1 lead.

Tyler Henderson added to the Pride advantage with a long ball of his own in the fifth inning before the Pacers pulled within 4-3 with a two-run sixth inning.

The Pride held on down the stretch to secure the victory.

Henderson finished with three hits in the game, while Cody York, Wilkins, and Neumeister had at least one hit. Dustin Minnick picked up the win for Greensboro, and Edward Dorunda recorded his first save of the season.

"Collectively this group played with energy and passion all weekend," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "I am very proud of them for continuing to compete down the stretch as that is what our coaching staff has been stressing to them day in and day out. As a result of them competing, they were rewarded with three good wins this weekend."

The Pride will return to action at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when they travel to Emory & Henry for a non-conference double-header. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
