MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Adam Murray hit his first career grand slam Sunday as the Greensboro College baseball team defeated the Hawks of Huntingdon College 10-8.
Huntingdon (10-6, 2-1 USA South) jumped out to a 7-0 lead through two innings before the Pride (5-13, 1-2 USA South) found the scoreboard.
Brandon Soden led off the third inning with a single before coming in to score on a
Zach Neumeister single to center field. Greensboro pulled to within 7-2 later in the inning as J.P Lisk scampered across the plate after a Hawks error.
The Pride pulled ahead 8-7 with six runs in the fourth inning. Griffin Riley led off the inning with a single to left field before advancing to third on Soden's second single of the game. Riley then scored on a Lisk single. Later in the inning with two out, Murray plated
Kristopher Taveras, Neumeister, and Lisk with a home run to right field, giving the Pride the lead.
After Greensboro added to its lead in the fifth inning, the Hawks scored one run in the seventh inning to pull within 9-8.
The Pride added an insurance run in the ninth inning to help secure its first conference victory of the season.
Soden, Lisk, Neumeister, and Murray each had a team-high two hits, while Taveras,
Tyler Henderson, and Riley each had one.
Brian Robbett picked up the win after pitching four innings in relief of
Jeff Waring.
Edward Dorunda earned the save.
