Late Rally Comes Up Short Against Tufts

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite a late-inning rally, the Greensboro College baseball team fell to the Jumbos of Tufts University 8-6 Tuesday.

The Jumbos (4-2) established a 4-0 lead through four innings before Zach Neumeister cut the Pride (6-19) deficit in half with a two-RBI double to right-center field.

Tufts then added to its lead with one run in the sixth inning before Greensboro pulled within 5-4 in a two-run seventh inning. Neumeister doubled home Bram Johnson for the first run of the inning, while Andrew Ray accounted for one RBI.

However, the Jumbos tacked on three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to put Greensboro in a four-run hole.

Greensboro responded with two runs in the ninth to pull within 8-6 but could get no closer.

"Zach (Neumeister) had a great day for us offensively today," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "I could not be more proud of the way our guys battled back. To get the tying run at the plate or on base in a situation like tonight make me extremely happy even though we came up just short."

Neumeister finished with a team-high four hits and three RBIs, while Edward Mililan, Andrew Ray, and Brian Robbett each had one hit. Zach Branon took the loss on the mound for Greensboro.

The Pride will return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Knights of Saint Andrews. For more information on Pride baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
