Baseball Falls To Knights in Non-Conference Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell to the Knight of St. Andrews University Wednesday, 13-2.

The Knights (13-13) jumped out to a four-run lead before Kristopher Taveras hit his first collegiate home run to pull Greensboro (6-20) within three runs.

St. Andrews added a run in the second inning before Greensboro scored its final run of the afternoon in the inning. Brandon Soden picked up the RBI with a bases-loaded walk that scored James Wilkins from third base.

The Knights then scored the game's final eight runs to secure the victory.

"It was pretty evident that we were not prepared to play today defensively," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "We have to play defense consistently in order to win ball games, and we have not done.

"Our goals are still ahead of us as we still have a chance to finish in the top eight in the conference and advance to the conference tournament."

Tyler Henderson recorded a team-high three hits, while Griffen Riley added two hits. Zach Neumeister extended his hitting streak to seven games, while Taveras and Braedon Jewett added one hit. Jeff Waring (0-3) took the loss after giving up five runs in three innings. Mason Swaicki, Mitch Choros, Aaron Brown, and Taveras each pitched one inning in relief, while Brian Robbett pitched the final two innings.

The Pride will return to action at 3 p.m. Friday when they open a three-game USA South set, in Danville, Va., against the Cougars of Averett University. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
