GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Greensboro College baseball team split a USA South double-header with the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan Sunday.
The Pride (6-18, 2-7 USA South) took Game 1, 6-1, before suffering a 7-5 loss in Game 2.
Greensboro scored the game's first six runs before the Bishops (18-7, 9-3 USA South) scored their lone run in the eighth inning.
Kristopher Taveras,
Mac Graham,
J.P. Lisk,
Adam Murray, and Griffin Riley each had at least one RBI in the game.
Brandon Soden,
James Wilkins,
Zach Neumeister,
Braedon Jewett, Graham, and Murray each had one hit.
Josh Evans pitched seven stellar innings before giving way to
Brian Robbett for the final two innings.
"Josh had an amazing outing today," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado said. "The guys did a great job defensively behind him while executing well at the plate."
The Pride fell behind 3-0 in the first inning of Game 2. However, Greensboro scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead.
Andrew Ray singled home Wilkins for the first run before Graham and Jewett recorded RBI hits.
NCWC evened the score at 4 before Soden put Greensboro on top 5-4 with an RBI single to left field.
Wesleyan then scored the final three runs to secure the win.
Soden finished with three hits, while Neumesiter and Ray had two hits each.
Dustin Minnick started on the mound for Greensboro, and
Edward Dorunda took the loss in relief.
"It was a little disappointing not to get a series victory as we competed back to get in front," Maldonado said. "We made some mistakes defensively, and a good hitting team like Wesleyan took advantage of them."
The Pride will return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host the Jumbos of Tufts University. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow
