MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Denis Radcliffe scored a team-high four goals, but the Greensboro College men's lacrosse team dropped an overtime heartbreaker to Huntingdon College, 12-11.
Radcliffe and
Jervon Speller gave the Pride (1-7) an early two-goal lead before the Hawks (6-5) cut the Greensboro advantage in half.
The same duo then scored their second goals of the afternoon, but once again Huntingdon pulled within one goal.
Five minutes into the second period, Radcliffe struck for a third time, while
Joseph Stump extended the Pride lead to 6-3.
Following another Hawks goal, Greensboro took a 6-4 lead into halftime.
However, HC outscored the Pride 5-1 in the third period to take a 9-7 lead into the final 15-minutes of regulation.
It only took the Pride four minutes to knot the game at 9. Radcliffe cut the Hawks advantage to one off an assist from
Charles Stringfellow before Stringfellow tied the game two minutes later.
Huntingdon then took another two-goal lead, but
Austin Bane tied the game with 1:47 left in regulation.
Halfway through the overtime segment, Brandon Scheele scored off an assist by Patrick Rowe to end the game.
"I am extremely proud of how hard our men played today," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "Overtime losses are never easy to swallow, but we will continue to work hard and prepare for our next opponent."
Stringfellow finished with a team-high four assists, while
Victor Mehrtens had two. Mehrtens picked up a team-high six groundballs. Despite making 12 saves,
Ethan Danser took the loss for Greensboro.
Scheele paced the Hawks with three goals, while three other players recorded two goals.
