FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale Sunday to Methodist University, 84-75.
Greensboro (14-10, 10-5 USA South) took its lone lead of the contest at 4-2, following a basket by
Kamerin Williams, before the Monarchs (14-9, 9-6 USA South) closed out the first period on a 14-4 run.
Methodist extended its lead to double digits before Greensboro pulled to within 39-33 at halftime, following an 8-0 run.
Alexis Hite and
Bryanna Stanton each tallied three points during the span, while Williams accounted for the other two.
The Monarchs extended their lead to 71-57 in the fourth period, but the Pride used a 13-3 run to pull within 74-68 with six minutes left in the game..
Courtney Pearsall started the run with her second basket before William capped it off.
However, the Pride was not able to get any closer, falling by nine.
"I am disappointed that the last game of the regular season was played the way it was," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "The good thing is we still have a chance to play in the conference tournament and try to make a run at another championship."
Williams recorded a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Monica Smalls and
Alyssa Carbone each added 12 points.
Marla Crawford dished out a team-high six assists.
The Pride, who enter the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed, will begin their title defense at 5 p.m. Thursday when they take on the fourth-seeded Panthers of LaGrange College. The tournament will be played on the campus of Maryville College.
