FARMVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College baseball team split a pair of games Saturday on Day 2 of the Floyd Wilcox Tournament, hosted by Hampden-Sydney College.
The Pride (3-6) topped the host Tigers 5-4 in 11 innings to open the day before falling to Wesley College 17-6.
The Tigers broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning with one run.
Greensboro responded with four runs in top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Brandon Soden hit a one-out double before coming around to score on a
J.P. Lisk single. Edward Mililian then plated Lisk with his first hit of the afternoon. Following a single by
James Wilkins,
Mac Graham cleared the bases with a triple.
HSC then tied the game in the seventh inning before Wilkins plated the go-ahead run in the 11
th inning to gain the 5-4 lead.
Brian Robbett then retired the side in order, picking up his second save in as many days.
Wilkins finished 4-of-5 at the plate, while
Brandon Soden added two hits.
Hunter Wolfington picked up the win after tossing one complete inning. Adam Murry went 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs.
In the second game, the Pride had a hard time stopping the Wildcats offense.
The two teams traded the lead early, but Wesley broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and Greensboro could not recover.
Zach Neumeister, Murray, and
Andrew Ray each totaled two hits. Pitcher
Josh Evans took the loss.
"Winning a game in extra innings against a well-coached Hampden-Sydney team really showed our staff just how far the team has come in just a short time," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado said. "Game 2 against Wesley was a tough loss, but I was very proud of how this group continues to compete."
