Baseball Drops Two To Lynchburg

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College baseball team lost a double-header Sunday to the Hornets of Lynchburg College, 5-3 and 8-4.

Greensboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in each of the first two innings. Zach Neumesier scored the game's first run on a Hornet error, before James Wilkins plated Edward Mililan with a double in the second inning.

Lynchburg then took a 3-2 lead in the top half of the fourth inning.

After the Hornets added another run in the top of the fifth, the Pride scored its final run of the game in the bottom half of the inning. Mac Graham singled with one out before coming in to score on a Hornets error.

Lynchburg added one final run in the seventh inning to secure the victory.

Brandon Soden, Graham, Mililian, Neumeister, and Wilkins combined for Greensboro's five hits in the game. Josh Evans (0-1) took the loss after pitching the first five innings.

The Pride struck first in the second game with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Bram Johnson picked up his first hit of the season before coming around to score on a Daniel Efrid single.

The Hornets scored three runs in the fourth inning before the Pride responded with three runs of their own to regain a 4-3 lead. Braedon Jewett and Soden each recorded an RBI in the inning.

However, Lynchburg scored the next five runs to secure the 8-4 victory.

Neumeiser and Johnson each finished with a team-high three hits, while Brian Robbett, Efrid, Soden, and Jewett each recorded at least one hit. Jeff Waring got a no-decision after tossing four innings. Will McGuire (1-1) took the loss.

"Today was a true test of where we are as of this point," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "I tell the guys to stay focused, but we were flat in some areas and Lynchburg capitalized on our mistakes. I know that we will continue to get better."

The Pride will return to the diamond at 3 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Wasps of Emory & Henry. For the latest information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
