GREENSBORO, N.C. – Head Coach
Frank Maldonado picked up his first career win Saturday as the Pride baseball team split a double-header with Washington & Lee University.
The Pride (1-3) won the first game 1-0 before dropping the second 4-3 in 10 innings.
After failing to capitalize on its opportunities early in the first game, the Pride scored the lone run in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
Zach Neumeister got himself into scoring position with a leadoff double before advancing to third on a
J.P. Lisk sacrifice bunt.
Adam Murray then plated the game-winning run on a fielder's choice.
Mac Graham,
Andrew Hernandez, Murray, and Neumeiester combined for Greensboro's four hits in the game.
Wil McGuire (1-0), who came out of the Pride bullpen midway through the top half of the seventh inning, picked up his first win of the season.
Dustin Minnick started for the Pride and recorded three strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
The Generals then jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game with two first-inning runs before Greensboro responded to tie the game.
Graham led off the bottom of the first inning with a double before coming in to score on a Generals error. Three batters later,
Brandon Soden plated
Brian Robbett from second base to tie the game.
The Pride then took a 3-2 lead in the third inning.
Andrew Ray recorded his first extra-base hit of the season before advancing on a Matt Denham single. Hernandez then scored Ray with a sacrifice fly to left field.
However, the Generals capitalized on Greensboro's mistakes to come away with the 4-3 victory.
Soden, Graham, and Neumeister each finished with two hits. Soden also stole a team-high two bases.
Edward Dorunda (0-1) took the loss on the mound.
