NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College (NY) Friday, 76-71.
The Knights (5-3) took a ten-point lead five minutes into the game before the Pride used a 12-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 17-15.
Darus Maddox tallied five points during the run, while
Dominic Fumbanks and
Christopher Corbin combined for seven points.
Mount Saint Mary then briefly regained a narrow one point advantage but Greensboro established its largest lead of the half at 27-19 following a 10-1 run.
Torrance Outing sparked the run with his first three-pointer on the game before
Lorenzo Marry chipped in five points.
Despite another strong push by the Knights, the Pride was able to take a 39-37 lead into the break.
The two teams then traded baskets over the first five minutes of the second half before Griffith connected on a dunk attempt to give Greensboro their largest lead of the game at 53-44.
However, the Pride could not hold their advantage late as the Knights outscored the Pride 10-3 over the final five minutes to secure the five point victory.
"Today was a tough road loss," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "To win on the road you really have to play well. At times we were a very good college basketball team, but overall we weren't consistent enough.
"It was a make or miss game, and down the stretch we didn't make enough shots, and our defense wasn't very good. We have to find a way to show more grit and grind down the stretch. All the credit to Mount St. Mary's, they completed the plays they needed to in order to win.
"We have to show better focus and value you every possession through the entire game. We all have to regroup and be prepared to play again
tomorrow afternoon. I am interested to see if we all are mature enough to bounce back
tomorrow."
Donavan Griffith recorded his third double-double on the season as he recorded a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Maddox and Fumbanks each finished with nine points, while Marry chipped in seven points.
The Pride men will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when they complete their two-game New York swing against Mount Saint Vincent. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow
