RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday, 94-87.
The Dolphins (1-6) took a 10-point lead eight minutes into the game before the Pride (5-3) used an 11-5 run to pull within 25-21.
Christopher Corbin led the charge with six points, while
Alvin Cunningham Jr. added three points.
Mount Saint Vincent then extended their margin to 32-24 with five minutes left in the half, but Greensboro closed out the final five minutes on a 12-3 to take a 36-35 lead into the half.
Donavan Griffith and
Torrance Outing combined for seven points during the run, while
Dominic Fumbanks,
Zedric Barnett, and
Joseph Gatling combined for the remaining five points.
The Pride continued their momentum early in the second half as they used a 13-4 run to establish a 49-39 lead.
Zedric Barnett paced the spurt with five points.
After the Dolphins pulled within 67-60 with 8:41 to play, the Pride established their largest lead of the game at 73-60 following a
Donavan Griffith layup.
Over the final eight minutes of play, Mount Saint Vincent used a 9-2 run of their own to pull within five but Greensboro was able to hold on for the seven-point victory.
"We found a way to win today," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "I am very proud of the team for grinding the full 40 minutes."
Griffith recorded his second consecutive double-double as he recorded a game high 20 points and 18 rebounds. Outing tallied 16 points, while Barnett and Corbin each had 13 points.
