FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College football team fell in its final road contest of the season Saturday against Methodist University, 38-6.
The Monarchs (2-5, 1-3 USA South) scored the game's first 38 points before the Pride (1-8, 0-6 USA South) score the final touchdown of the game on its final drive.
Greensboro started the drive on their own 30-yard line following a 15-yard kickoff return by
Herbert Bridges.
Following the kickoff return, quarterback
Mac Graham completed four of his next five attempts, while also recording a 10-yard rush.
With Greensboro facing a long second down, Graham scampered for a first down before connecting with Tavares Thomas from 10-yards out for the touchdown. However,
Ryan Campbell's point after attempt missed wide left.
Greensboro then tried to get the ball back but Methodist recovered the pooch kick.
"We shot ourselves in the foot early with some special teams mistakes," Head Coach
Greg Crum said. "We are just not a good enough football team right now to dig ourselves out of a large hole early.
"Despite the score, our guys continued to battle and show resilience throughout the entire game."
Graham finished with a team-high 205 yards passing, while
Quentin Chavis completed five passes for 46 yards. Thomas recorded eight catches for 127 yards and one touchdown, while
Greg Tyler,
Devon Newton,
Demario Smith,
Matt Romanowski,
Meleck Thornton, and
Tolan Jones combined for 12 receptions.
Garratt Brannock had a team-high 15 tackles, including nine solo tackles.
Trey Cronin, Bridges,
Isaiah Milligan-Smith,
Adam Webber, and
Connor Earp combined for five tackles for loss.
The Pride will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they welcome Maryville College to town for senior day. Prior to the game, Greensboro will honor its senior class. For more information on Greensboro College football, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
