DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College volleyball team fell in its final USA South Athletic Conference regular season road contest to Averett University Wednesday, 3-0.

The Cougars raced out to a 5-2 lead in Set 1 before Greensboro ran off five straight points to take a 7-5 lead. Meredith Summers fueled the run with two service aces, while Samantha Kirschner added one kill.

Greensboro then held its margin until Averett retook the lead at 12-11 before going on to win the set 25-19, taking a 1-0 lead.

Following the first set, the Pride struggled to get the offense going as they dropped the final two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-15.

"Our defense did great holding us in the game tonight," Assistant Coach Catherine Head said. "We look forward to using that as a building block heading into senior day Saturday."

Emily Horn, Evan Sherer, and Summers combined for 12 kills, while Tori Blecher recorded 12 digs. Katie Clark had a team-high eight assists.

The Pride volleyball team will return to action at 6 p.m. Saturday when they host the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan for senior day.
