GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team suffered its first USA South Athletic Conference loss Wednesday against Methodist University, 70-62.
The Pride (7-6, 3-1 USA South) opened the game on a 6-2 run.
Marla Crawford tallied four of her team-high 13 points during the run, while
Kamerin Williams recorded the other two points off an assist from
Domonique McCoy.
Methodist then tied the game at 12 at the end of the first period.
Over the first four minutes of the second period, the Monarchs (8-3, 4-0 USA South) used an 8-0 run to open a 20-12 lead.
The Pride closed the deficit to 23-22 just four minutes later following a 10-3 run.
Alyssa Carbone and
Alexis Hite each recorded one three-pointer, while
Da Jah Joyner and
Courtney Pearsall also scored.
Methodist extended its lead to 29-24 at halftime.
After the Monarchs re-established their double-figure advantage, the Pride pulled within 56-53, following a three-point play by Williams, but could not get any closer.
"We really struggled on both sides of the ball today," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "On the offensive side of the ball, our girls did not get into any offensive sets. When we went down the court, we either took a shot off the first pass or turned the ball over. If we want to be successful, that cannot happen."
Joyner (11) and Williams (10) joined Crawford in double figures. Williams also collected a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Pride will return to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan. For more information on the Greensboro College women's basketball team, continue to follow
