DANVILLE, VA -- The Greensboro College Pride Volleyball team opened their 2015 season on Saturday afternoon at Cougar Classic hosted by Averett University. The Pride fell in their opening match of the day to the Hornets of Shenandoah University 3-0 before falling to the Maroons of Roanoke College by an identical score.
After playing the first set of the match against the Hornets tight, Greensboro then dropped the second game of the match 25-16 before dropping the third game 25-19.
Shayla Moss led the way for the Greensboro against the Hornets with seven kills while
Evan Sherer contributed six. Libero
Holly Anders led the team with 13 digs and
Darrian Bolt passed for 14 assists.
Following the loss to Shenandoah, Greensboro played an even tighter match against the Maroons falling in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-22.
Pride newcomer,
Meredith Summers led the way in the second match with nine kills while
Marquenette Fuller and
Brandy Johnson added six.
Tori Belcher and Summers each recorded double digit digs while
Bari Tressler passed for a team high 19 assists.
The Pride will return to action for the second and final day of the Cougar Classic on Sunday. Greensboro will take on the Wasps of Emory & Henry at 9:30 AM before squaring off with the Wildcats of Randolph College at 3:30 PM. For the latest on Pride athletics, continue to follow
