ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Greensboro College volleyball team traveled to North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday for a pair of USA South Athletic Conference matches. The Pride fell to William Peace in the first match of the day, 3-0, before snapping their skid of late by defeating the host Bishops, 3-2.
In the first match of the day, Greensboro fell to the Pacers in three tightly contested sets. The Pride dropped the first set 25-18 before dropping the next two by scores of 25-19 and 25-23.
Evan Sherer led the way for Greensboro in the match with a .455 hitting percentage while recording six kills on eleven total attacks.
Breana Baker,
Shayla Moss, and
Megan Baranko each recorded four kills.
Tori Belcher led the way with 13 defensive digs while
Darrian Bolt added 13 assists.
Following their shown down with William Peace, the Pride was able to snap their four match skid as they topped the host Bishops in five sets, 3-2.
Greensboro won the first and third sets of the match before Wesleyan sent the match into a decisive fifth set by winning the second and fourth sets. In the fifth set, Greensboro was able to secure the match victory with a 15-10 win.
Megan Baranko recorded a team high ten kills in the match while Sherer was just one behind her Pride teammate with nine.
Brandy Johnson also recorded eight kills.
Meredith Summers and
Tori Belcher each recorded at least 20 defensive digs.
"Today was a demonstration of how hard our girls have been working," Head Coach
Kaci Pike stated following the final match. "Each player made a valuable contribution to the teams successes. We look forward to building off this weekend."
With the two match split, the Pride now sits at 5-10 overall and 2-4 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride will return to the court on Tuesday night.
