WILSON, NC- The Greensboro College baseball team dropped to Piedmont College, 9-8, on Friday afternoon.
In the first inning, Piedmont got on the board first by scoring three runs before Greensboro answered by scoring one. Jordan Powell hit a single and Brandon Soden scored off an error made by the third baseman.
Greensboro scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3. Cody York singled advancing Zach Neumeister to third and scoring Kyle Williard. York then advanced to second on a error made by the shortstop with Neumeister scoring. The third inning was quiet for Greensboro with no runs scored.
Piedmont increased their lead to 6-3 in the top of the fourth while the Pride scored two in the bottom of the inning to make the score, 6-5. Soden doubled to left field scoringAndrew Hernandez and James Wilkins.
In the bottom of the fifth, Powell scored off a single hit by Neumeister to tie the game at 6-6. The Pride then scored two more runs to take an 8-6 lead. York singled scoring Neumeister and Brian Robbett. The sixth and seventh innings were quiet for both dugouts with no runs scored to keep the score at 8-6.
Because of two strikeouts and a six-to-three put away, The Pride kept Piedmont off the board in the eighth inning. Piedmont took back the lead (9-8) in the top of the ninth inning, later taking the win.
The Pride will play Piedmont tomorrow in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 10 a.m. Â Â Before the second game (starting at 1 p.m.), the seniors of Greensboro will be honored.Â
