Baseball Falls In Shootout With Emory & Henry

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College baseball team (10-16) returned to Ted Leonard Park on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Wasps of Emory & Henry College in a non-conference tilt. The Pride fell behind early and could not recover falling by a 16-13 score.

In the top half of the first inning, Emory & Henry was able to plate one run taking an early, 1-0, lead.

Greensboro was then able to bounce back with a single run in the home half of the second inning tying the game at 1-1. Andrew Ray beat out infield single before advancing on a Wasps error to second base. The next batter, Tyler Henderson singled up the middle scoring Ray from second.

Once the Pride evened the score at 1-1, the Wasps then regained the lead at 6-1 with runs in the top half of the third and fourth innings of play.

With Greensboro trailing by the five run margin, the Pride narrowed the gap to four runs at 6-2. Andrew Tony and Andrew Ray both reached on sharp singles to lead off the inning. Following a Zach Neumiester sacrifice bunt that advanced both runners up a base, Tyler Henderson recorded his second RBI of the game plating Toney from third base on a sacrifice fly to right field.

In their next trip to the plate, Greensboro was able to chip into the deficit even more. Centerfielder Brandon Soden found himself in scoring position to lead off the inning following a fielding error by the Wasps second basemen. After James Wilkins moved Soden over to third base Jordan Powell plated with a single making the score 6-3. Two batters following the Powell single, Andrew Toney scored Powell with his second hit of the day bringing the deficit down to two runs at 6-4. Before the end of the inning, Neumiester scored Brian Robbett narrowing the margin to 6-5.

Following the three run inning by Greensboro, Emory & Henry then extended their lead out to 14-5 with runs in their next two trips to the plate.

However, Greensboro was able to plate more runs in the home half of the seventh inning. Jordan Powell and Brian Robbett each score following RBI singles by Andrew Ray and Zach Neumiester making the score 14-7. Later in the inning, Ray would find himself across the plate making the score 14-9. Following the Powell run, Andrew Hernandezrecorded a sacrifice fly making the score 14-9.

The Wasps were once again able to get add on to their advantage with two more runs making the score 16-9.

For the second consecutive inning, Greensboro was able to plate four runs but in the end it was not enough as the Pride fell by a 16-13 mark.

Brian Robbett, Andrew RayZach Neumeister, Jordan Powell, and Andrew Toney each collected multiple hits in the game. Mitch Choros took the loss on the mound after toss the first four innings of play.
