Sagraves Rockets Pride To Victory Against Piedmont

DEMOREST, GA – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team (5-8) traveled to take on the Lions of Piedmont College (4-9) on Saturday afternoon. After trailing at the intermission, Greensboro was able to come back and take a 15-14 win.

Piedmont took early 1-0 lead in the opening quarter of play before Drew Farrell evened the score for the Pride just forty seconds later.

After Greensboro tied the game, Piedmont reestablished the lead following a man up goal to make the score 2-1.Nick SagravesDaniel WolfBlaine Wise, and Lamar Jelks combined for four unanswered goals to steam the Pride to a 5-2 lead.

In the final five minutes of the first quarter, Piedmont was able to close within 5-4.

Over the course of the second period of play, the Pride and the Panthers traded goals back and forth but Piedmont was able to take a narrow 9-8 lead into the intermission period. Nick Sagraves, Lamar Jelks, and Drew Farrell combined for Greensboro's three goals in the period.

Coming out of the intermission period, Blaine Wise blasted the ball into the net before Tamarie Sterling took a pass from Wise to put Greensboro on top by a 11-9 score less than four minutes into the quarter. A short time later, Piedmont once again pulled within one goal but Kyle Chambers scored with 3:11 showing on the third quarter clock to push the Greensboro margin back to 12-10.

In the fourth quarter of play, the Lions pulled the score even, at 13-13, but Greensboro was too much and pulled away with the 15-14 victory. With the scored tied, Nick Sagraves tallied two of his four goals on the day to preserve the win.

"I am very proud of the guy today for playing tough for a full sixty minutes against a very strong Piedmont team," Pride Head Coach Mike Foderaro stated following the game. "It was a very exciting game and we are looking forward to getting back on the field for our next game against Methodist."

Cody Cunningham recorded the win in goal on the evening while making nine saves.

The Pride men's lacrosse team will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Methodist University to close out their regular season. The first whistle is set for 3:30 PM.
