GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team (4-7) returned to Pride Field for the final time this season on Saturday afternoon for senior day. Prior to the start of the game, the Pride recognized seniors Newton Babb, Blaine Wise, and Nick Sagraves. Wise netted six goals on the day as the Pride defeated the Hawks of Huntingdon College (2-11) 14-7.
Huntingdon College got the scoring started with 9:40 left in the first period of play taking a 1-0 before Greensboro stormed out in front, 5-1, following five straight unanswered goals. Blaine Wise found the back of the net for the first time of the day to tie the game at 1-1. Following the Wise game tying goal, Denis Radcliffe, Charles Stringfellow, and Lamar Jelks added a goal each to push the Pride in front of the Hawks.
Just before the end of the period, Huntingdon was able to tally their second goal of the game but Greensboro took a, 5-2, lead into the second quarter of play.
In the second quarter, Greensboro College was able to extend their advantage to 9-3 heading into the intermission period. Blaine Wise tallied two goals in the period while Jelks and Charles Stringfellow added to the margin with goals of their own.
After a high scoring first half of play, the Hawks and the Pride accounted for only two goals in the third quarter. Blaine Wise took a feed from Denis Radcliffe to put the Greensboro margin at 10-3 before Huntingdon was able to close the gap back to six goals at 10-4 going into the final frame.
Less than ninety seconds into the final quarter, senior Nick Sagraves made the score 11-4 with his first of two goals on the day. Huntingdon then came back with two straight goals to narrow the margin to 11-6 but did not get any closer as the Pride came away with the 14-7 victory.
Denis Radcliffe, Nick Sagraves, Charles Stringfellow, and Lamar Jelks each recorded two goals on the day to go along with the six by Wise. Newton Babb forced a team high six turnovers while coming up just short of the team lead in groundballs with eight.
Pride faceoff man Gianni Gonzalez led the way for the Pride with nine groundballs after controlling 12 of his 24 faceoff attempts. Cody Cunningham made seven saves on the afternoon between the pipes for the win.
