Men's Lacrosse Downs Alvernia, 17-2

GREENSBORO, NC- The Greensboro College Men's Lacrosse team received their first win of the season today by defeating Alvernia, 17-2.

In the first three minutes of the game, Charles Stringfellow, Blaine Wise and Denis Radcliffe set the tone for Greensboro by scoring a goal each. With six minutes left in the first period, Jervon Speller made the score 4-0 before Alvernia lessened Greensboro's lead to 4-1.

In a two minute time span in the second period, Drew Farrell scored two goals for a 6-1 lead. Nick Sagraves also scored two goals and Denis Radcliffe, Tamarie Sterling, and Lamar Jelks scored one a piece.

Going into the third period, Greensboro had an 11-1 lead over Alvernia. Just one minute into the third period, Wise connected with the back of the cage giving Jelks the assist. Sagraves scored off an assist from Radcliffe followed by Wise who later scored in the tenth minute for a 14-1 lead. Alvernia scored their second and last goal in the last three minutes of the third quarter.

In the fourth period, Taylor Babb, Radcliffe, and Farrell scored one goal each for Greensboro to take the win.

For the game, The Pride took 49 shots and picked up a total of 43 groundballs. Goalie Cody Cunningham made 19 saves in the cage.

Gianni Gonzalez won 12 of 15 face-offs for The Pride while picking up nine groundballs. Wise and Sterling both picked up four balls a piece while Babb picked up six.

The Pride travel to Southern Virginia on Saturday, March 7th for a face-off time of 4 p.m.
