Baseball Snaps Conference Skid With 10-5 Victory Over NC Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Greensboro College baseball team halted their USA South Athletic Conference skid on Friday afternoon at North Carolina Wesleyan. Greensboro jumped out to an early lead, and was able to come away with a, 10-5, victory in thirteen innings.

The Pride got on the board first with two runs in the top half of the third inning of play. Brandon Soden led off the third inning with a single to left field before coming around to score following a James Wilkins double down the left field line. Later in the inning, Pride first basemen Andrew Toney plated Wilkins on a sacrifice fly giving Greensboro the 2-0 lead.

Greensboro's lead did not hold long as the Bishops responded with two run of their own in the home half of the fourth inning to tie the game.

After Wesleyan tied the game, Greensboro then scored the games next three runs to take a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the ninth inning of play where the Bishops scored three runs to send the game into extra frames.

With the score tied, 5-5, in the top half of the thirteenth Greensboro was able to push the game's final five runs across the plate to come away with the 10-5 victory. In the inning Brian Robbett, James Wilkins, and Jordan Powell each recorded at least one RBI.

Greensboro College out hit the Bishops in the contest by at 13-10 mark. Second basemen Jay Cumbo led the way with three hits while Brandon Soden, James Wilkins, and Brian Robbett each contributed two hits a piece.

Cody York (1-0) picked up the win on the mound tossing the game's final 4.1 innings only giving up two hits. Senior starting pitcher Kristopher Peeden did not factor into the decision.

With their second win in as many days, the Pride baseball team improves increases their overall record to 7-7 on the season and 6-7 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The baseball team will return to Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the three game series with the Bishops. The first pitch of the double header is set for 12:00 PM.
