Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against N.C. Wesleyan

The Greensboro College baseball team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan, 9-4, before dropping, 6-5, Sunday afternoon.

First Game

In the first inning, Brandon Soden started the scoring early from Jordan Powell reaching on an error made by the third baseman. N.C. Wesleyan answered back scoring one run, also in the first inning. 

The score was held at 1-1 until the fourth inning when Greensboro scored two runs. Soden singled to left field advancing Jay Cumbo and scoring Cody York and Kyle Willard. N.C Wesleyan tied the game in the fifth inning, 3-3 and took a short lead of 4-3 in the seventh.

The Pride didn't score again until the eighth inning where they scored two. The first run scored was made by York's single to right field that scored Brian Robbett. The second run scored was made by Willard's single to center field scoring Daniel Tilley.

Greensboro sealed the win in the ninth inning scoring four runs. Andrew Toney hit a single to score Zach Neumeister and Gwynn Thompson hit a three-run homer scoring himself, Robbett and Andrew Toney.

Second Game

In the first inning, Powell scored off of Robbett's double to center field. Greensboro didn't score again until the fifth inning. James Wilkins reached on an error made by the thrid baseman scoring Soden and Cumbo.

The Pride then scored their final two runs in the eighth inning. York was hit by a pitch scoring Powell before Willard reached first on an error made by the shortstop scoring Robbett.

The game was tied at 5-5 until the tenth inning when N.C. Wesleyan scored the winning run.

The team is now 8-8 overall and 7-8 in the conference. The Pride host Tufts on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. at Ted Leonard Park.
