Baseball Tops Lynchburg 7-5

LYNCHBURG, VA-  The Greensboro College Baseball team defeated Lynchburg College, 7-5, on Thursday afternoon.

The Pride's Cody York scored early in the first inning off a RBI from Andrew Toney. Kyle Willard was next at the plate hitting a single to center field, scoring Toney for a 2-0 lead.

Lynchburg then responded right back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.

The score remained 2-2 until the third inning when Brandon Soden scored off a fielder's choice. The Pride kept the 3-2 lead until the fifth inning when Lynchburg scored one run to make it 3-3.

Even though Soden scored the only run for Greensboro in the sixth inning, Lynchburg took back the lead (5-4).

No runs were scored from either team until the ninth inning where The Pride scored three runs, giving themselves the win. Early in the inning, Willard reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. Later, Daniel Tille scored off Andrew Ray's single down the left field line and finally Wilkin scored off Jay Cumbo's sacrifice fly to center field.

For the game, Willard collected three RBIs while Jordan Powell, Andrew Toney, Andrew Ray, and Jay Cumbo recorded one RBI a piece. Soden scored two runs while York, Powell, Toney, Tilley and Wilkins all scored one run each.

On the mound, Hunter Wolfington took the win for The Pride pitching one inning only letting up one hit. Mitch Choros started the game on the mound and lasted 4.1 innings with two strikeouts, letting up three runs on five hits.
