HUNTINGDON, Al – The Greensboro College baseball team traveled to take on the Hawks of Huntingdon College in a three game USA South series. Despite getting early leads in all three games the Pride dropped them by scores of 16-4, 16-7, and 10-5.
In the first game of the series, Greensboro College collected seven hits while recording four runs. Brandon Soden led the way for the Pride with two hits which led to one run scored. Pride firstbasemen Andrew Toney recorded a team high two RBIs with Cody York and Brian Robbett adding one RBI each.
Kristopher Peeden took the loss on the mound for the Pride tossing 5.1 innings while recording three strike outs.
After falling in the first game, Greensboro once again jumped a head of the Hawks, 3-0, but Huntingdon produced another big inning to come out on top 16-7.
Greensboro was able to improve their hit total from the first game of the series. The Pride had seven players combined together for ten hits with Jordan Powell, Tyler Henderson, and Jay Cumbo recording two hits apiece. Brandon Soden recorded two RBIs with his first triple of the season.
For the second time this season, freshman lefthander Adam Murray took to the mound to start the game but did not factor into the decision. Murray tossed six innings of three hit ball but did give up two earned runs. Austin Hardin (1-1) took the loss despite only pitching one third of a innings.
Finally in the third and final game of the three game set, the Pride produced a three run first inning but it was not enough as they fell by a 10-5 mark.
Jordan Powell recorded a team high three hits including one double to drive in one run. Brandon Soden and Brian Robbett each collected two hits. Aaron Brown, Andrew Ray, and Gwynn Thompson each registered a RBI to go along with the one RBI by Powell.
Junior pitcher Jeff Waring (2-2) came up on the back side of the decision.
"We were in all three games until the midway point," Pride Head Coach Jonathan Nichols said following the series. "We have to do a better job to avoid the big innings but it is still early in the season. As a team we need to limit our mistakes and get ready to go for our next game."
With the three losses to the Hawks, the Pride baseball team falls to 5-7 overall on the season and 5-7 in USA South Athletic Conference play. Greensboro will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to take on the Generals of Washington & Lee. The first pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
